Week 100 – Making Mess & Being Fashionable

Thursday #101 – kicked off this Thursday in the usual fashion – with some weetbix before heading off to work.  It was an earlier than usual departure as I bussed into work today to make it easier to head straight into the city after work.

Work was super quiet with a total of 4 patients – The Kiwi Early Leaver was slightly busier with 5 patients.  As is often the case when it's quiet, I spent a fair bit of time hanging out at reception.  The Girl With The Tiger Tattoo and I got a little distracted as she refilled the ink in our stamps and before we knew it the once white desk was covered in red ink.  We went crazy with the alcowipes trying to get rid of it but just ended up smearing it all over the place.  Almost a week on the desk remains slightly pink and we've finally managed to get the red ink off our hands.

Lunch was a salad and a well earned break after my 2 patients in the morning.  After my last 2 patients I headed off early to make it into the city for a seminar.  The 4 o'clock finish in the appointment book allowed me plenty of time to make it to the city, check out some dresses in Portmans and still be early for the 5.15pm seminar.

The seminar was riveting (as they always are) as I felt like I was back in uni learning about contact lenses and wondered why I picked a career with so much continuing education.  I opted out of the free dinner following the talk as I couldn't bear the thought of making small talk with The Saturday Room Stealer for a couple of hours.  Instead I got myself a crepe and waited for The Weather Girl to come meet me in the city for Vogue's Fashion Night Out.

Promptly after finishing my dinner, my stomach started killing me and I hoped that The Weather Girl would be caught up at work and we would have to reschedule our shopping.  No such luck.  As she was coming in at my request to help me decide on a dress for The Wannabe Ranga's wedding, I kinda had to suck it up and wander around the shops with her in agony.  I decided on a dress, dropped the bombshell that I won't be at her 30th birthday and made it home without dying so all in all it was a rather successful evening.

Once home and in my pyjamas my stomach settled down and I was able to watch some Catfish with DTM – his new favourite TV show.  With the exception of a couple of hours of stomach pain and some very red fingers it was a pretty ok Thursday.

Week 99 – Being Bored & Nothing Memorable

Thursday #100 – as I write this 2 weeks later this Thursday is barely memorable so I will keep this very brief.

It's safe to assume I had some breakfast before heading into work.  My first patient was a 16 year old who I had seen the previous week and was bringing back for a visual fields exam – mostly because I was stumped and couldn't find any reason for her symptoms.  He visual fields were normal which I explained was good but it did mean I had no idea why she occasionally got an intense pain in her left eye and why it had been non-stop twitching for 2 weeks.  I told her all the test results were normal and “if pain persists, see your doctor” (but in a less TV commercial kinda way).

A quick look at the appointment book tells me I was not very busy this Thursday and saw 3 patients before 10.30am then no one until 1pm.  After that patient, there was another three and half hour break before my final patient at 4 o'clock.

I considered stopping in at Quit It's house on my way home as it was her 27th birthday that day but for some reason I didn't so I can only assume I had something else in mind that I needed to do.  What that was I have absolutely no idea.  She did however put a photo of her birthday cake on facebook and I promptly took a screenshot to send to The Scientist and put in a request for my own birthday cake in 6 months time.  She assures me it will be a piece of cake  and I assure you the pun was all her doing not mine.

Not a lot to sum up this Thursday as it was so very forgettable.  If I had to guess I would assume DTM and I spent quite a while reclining on the lounge and watching TV but really it's anyone's guess how I spent that Thursday night.

Week 98 – Surprising DTM & “Winning” 4th place

Thursday #99 – up until 5.30pm this Thursday I have very little recollection of how my day was as I have left it almost 3 weeks to write this.  I remember what happened after work but sadly cannot remember the always riveting details about my breakfast, lunch and patients – a sad moment for all of us.

After work I decided to head into Chatswood and surprise DTM when he finished work.  Having done this before I wasn't sure how surprised he'd be and I did my best to maintain an over-the-phone-poker-face when he rang and asked me what I wanted to do tonight as I was walking from my car to his work.  I had to tell him I would come and meet him as otherwise he may have been on the bus home by the time I got to his work.  He was still surprised by how quickly I arrived as he assumed I was 15-20 minutes away rather than 2.  Win.

After grabbing some dinner (probably schnitzel but I really don't recall) we headed to the RSL for some cheap beverages.  We were surprised to stumble upon a trivia night and despite normally favouring a team comprising of more than just the two of us, we thought we might as well give it a crack.  It was a small turn out that week with only 3 other teams competing so we told ourselves we might have a legitimate chance here.  Not so.

The trivia was pretty good (and having sampled trivia at Dee Why Hotel, Belrose Hotel, Terrey Hills Tavern and Forestville RSL I consider myself a bit of an expert) and the TV screen with picture clues was a nice touch but sadly we did not end our night top of the table.  We came 4th and since we scored ourselves drink vouchers for this we do not consider it a loss, it's just a strange coincidence that everyone else got prizes and there wasn't a 5th team...

After trivia we enjoyed our free drink before heading home.  A pretty good Thursday night as we vowed to return with more of a crew to defend our prestigious “win”.
